"The courageous conversation, almost by definition, is the conversation you do not want to have." —David Whyte

What are the conversations that need to stop, start, or change to make your work more meaningful? How do we become a person whose presence invites such exploration? Drawing from the language and imagery of poetry and 25 years of experience working in executive education, author and poet David Whyte joins Sounds True founder Tami Simon to explore what he calls “conversational leadership.”

In this free webinar, Tami and David will discuss how we can become a hospitable presence for the genuine and often challenging conversations that are waiting for our invitation to emerge and bring their clarifying and energizing power to our work. Topics covered include many of the elements David has developed with Invitas, his Institute for Conversational Leadership, including:

  • Becoming Friends with the Unknown: suspending the need to jump to strategy, answers, and conclusions in order to welcome what is surprising and new
  • Cultivating a Robust Vulnerability: how vulnerability is not a weakness but instead a connection to what we really care about
  • Fire in the Voice: bringing ourselves out of hiding and engaging in courageous, soul-filled speech
  • Identifying Personal Artistry in Yourself and Others: how this recognition of our individual artistry leads to enhanced teamwork and more fulfillment at work

Meet Your Hosts

Tami Simon

Founder of Sounds True and Cofounder of the Inner MBA® Program

At age 22, Tami Simon started Sounds True with a dream and a tape recorder. Though she had no business experience, Tami had her guiding principle strongly in place: disseminate spiritual wisdom. Over its 39-year history, Sounds True has produced over 3,000 titles, been nominated twice for the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing companies, and is North America’s leading multimedia publisher of wisdom teachings.

David Whyte

Internationally renowned poet, philosopher, and speaker

David Whyte grew up with a strong, imaginative influence from his Irish mother among the hills and valleys of his father’s Yorkshire. The author of twelve books of poetry and four books of prose, he holds a degree in marine zoology and has traveled extensively, including living and working as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands and leading anthropological and natural history expeditions in the Andes, the Amazon, and the Himalayas. He brings this wealth of experience to his poetry, lectures, and workshops. David’s life as a poet has created a readership and listenership in three normally mutually exclusive areas: the literate world of readings that most poets inhabit, the psychological and theological worlds of philosophical inquiry, and the world of vocation, work, and organizational leadership.

Let your vulnerabilities walking on the cracked, sliding limestone, be this time, not a weakness, but a faculty for understanding what’s about to happen.

We are taking the health of all Inner MBA enrollees very seriously. We’ve made a few additional options available in your enrollment process.

If you are uncertain about traveling to the in-person immersion events in September 2020 and April 2021, you may now enroll for the Virtual Only Program, and then upgrade later to the In-Person Immersion Events & Virtual Program if you become more comfortable with travel.

Alternately, if you’d like to enroll in the In-Person Immersion Events & Virtual Program, you can downgrade to the Virtual Only option if you need to due to travel conditions.

To support anyone experiencing financial hardship during this time, we have opened up several more scholarships than we initially planned to, to make sure no student who wants to attend is turned away for financial reasons.
